May 21-23 – GITEX X Green Digital Action (Hamburg, Germany)

The Green Digital Action Summit at GITEX EUROPE, co-hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA), is set to advance climate action through digital innovation. Building on the COP29 Green Digital Action Declaration, this summit will address critical European and global green technology and policy priorities. The event aims to shape the future of sustainable technology in preparation for COP30 in Brazil.

The summit will delve into a range of topics essential for collective environmental stewardship. These include the intricacies of AI, the adoption of green technical standards, the principles of a circular economy, and the crucial role of emergency telecommunications. By focusing on these areas, the summit seeks to catalyze momentum towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Distinguished speakers and experts will share their insights and commitments to the Green Digital Action initiative. Notable participants include Boris Tadic, former President of Serbia; Charles Hurpy, Senior Digital Development Specialist at the World Bank; and Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, among others.

The summit invites organizations to explore the various pillars of the Green Digital Action initiative and the transformative commitments made by leading technology companies. Key objectives include reducing ICT sector GHG emissions, driving the adoption of international green standards, fostering a circular economy, and leveraging emergency telecommunication systems for life-saving disaster alerts.
